What We Believe:  The Presbyterian Church (USA) states its faith and bears witness to God’s grace in Jesus Christ in the creeds and confessions in The Book of Confessions.

 Briefly Stated:

We share these tenets with the church universal:

·         We believe in the Trinity (one God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit).

·         We believe in the incarnation of the eternal Word of God in Jesus Christ.

We share these affirmations of the Protestant Reformation:

·         We believe in justification by grace alone, through faith alone.

·         We believe in scripture as God’s inspired Word, and the final authority for salvation and the life of faith.

We share these tenets with the Reformed Tradition:

·         We believe in the Sovereignty of God, and affirm God’s majesty, holiness and providence.

·         We believe in the election of the people of God for service as well as salvation.

·         We believe in the covenant life marked by a disciplined order in the church according to the Word of God.

·         We believe in faithful Stewardship of all of life that shuns ostentation and seeks proper use of the gifts of God’s creation.

·         We believe in sin, the human tendency to idolatry and tyranny, and we therefore call the people of God to work for the transformation of the society by seeking justice and living in obedience to the Word of God.

 Commit Your Life To Christ:

·         Admit that God has not been first place in your life and ask Him to forgive your sins. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from every wrong.”  1 John 1:9

·         Believe that Jesus died to pay for your sins and that He rose again on Easter, and is alive today.  “If you confess that Jesus is your Lord, and you believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” Romans 10:9

·         Accept God’s free gift of salvation.  Don’t try to earn it. “For it is by grace you are saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast.”   Ephesians 2:8-9. Our relationship to God is not restored by anything we do, but on the basis of what Jesus already did for us!

·         Invite Jesus Christ to be the director (“Lord”) of your life.  As you pray, invite the Holy Spirit to live within. “To all who receive Him, He gives the right to become children of God.  All we need to do is to trust Him to save us.  All those who believe this are reborn! – not a physical rebirth, but from the will of God!”   John 1:12-13. You can take these steps by praying a simple prayer of commitment to God: “Dear Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me, even when I’ve ignored you and gone my own way.  I realize I need you in my life and I’m sorry for my sins.  Please forgive me.  Thank you for dying on the cross for me.  Please help me to understand it more.  As much as I know how, I want to follow you from now on.  Please send the Holy Spirit into my life and make me a new person inside.  I accept your gift of salvation.  Please help me to grow now as a Christian.”     “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.”  Romans 10:13

·         Join The Church: Come and worship God with us on Sunday mornings 10:00AM; be our guest at one of our Sunday School Classes or small groups; join us on a mission or service project. If you feel God calling you to join us in following Christ's footsteps please speak with one of our Elders, Ambassadors (greeters wearing ribboned name tags), or Pastors: The Rev. Dr. Hugh Hamilton or The Rev. Anghaarad Teague Dees.

·         Baptism: Trinity Presbyterian Church accepts as legitimate the water baptism of all Christian churches who baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. “There is one body and one Spirit--Just as you were called to one hope when you were called--one Lord, one faith, one baptism.”   Ephesians 4:4-5. We normally baptize by sprinkling water on the head of the believer, representing our cleansing form sin in Jesus Christ, though baptism by immersion is permissible.

·         Baptism is a sign of the forgiveness we receive through the grace of Jesus Christ, as we share in his death and resurrection. “By our baptisms then, we were buried with Him and shared His death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead…so also we may live a new life!” Romans 6:4

·         Baptism doesn’t make you a believer – it shows that are a believer; a person who already trusts in God’s grace.  Baptism does not “save” you, only your faith in Christ does that.  Baptism is like a wedding ring – it’s the outward symbol of an inner commitment. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith…it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no none can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

·         Baptism welcomes an individual into the covenant family (the church). Youth or adults who have not been baptized before receive this sacrament when they make a public profession in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. Parents who acknowledge Jesus as Lord are encouraged to present their children for baptism, anticipating that one day the children’s baptisms will be confirmed when they make a public profession of faith in Christ.

·         Baptism serves to remind all of us of God's covenant of a person or in the case of children; parent(s) promise to express the faith in Christ to the child, and a community of faith's commitment to nurture that person in maturing as a Christian. When those already baptized make their own profession of faith in Christ, they are not re-baptized, but become confirmed members of the church.  Adults who return to the church after a time of spiritual hibernation need not be re-baptized.
